A new Christopher Newport University poll of 658 registered Virginia voters, conducted April 13-24, shows Jeb Bush edging Hillary Clinton in a head to head match, 48% to 46%. This latest poll shows a gain by Bush of five percentage points and a drop by Clinton of two percentage points compared with the 48-43 margin Clinton had over Bush in the Christopher Newport University poll conducted in February of 2015.
Pollsters say the change reflects a weakening of Clinton’s position among the general electorate of the commonwealth over the past two months, despite numbers that show her support among Democrats in the commonwealth strengthening. She dominates any potential Democratic primary challenger with 80 percent of a potential primary vote, including former Virginia U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, the closest potential competitor at 6 percent.

The Christopher Newport poll comes on the heels of Quinnipiac's April 9, 2015 poll, which found that Virginia voters say by a 52% to 40% percent margin that Clinton is not honest and trustworthy, with the email scandal causing the drop in Clinton's numbers in Virginia.
Both polls were done before the issues related to The Clinton Foundation not disclosing their donors, which Clinton promised the Obama White House they would do, so we will have to wait to see the impact in polling in this most important swing state.
