By now we've all read about Sylvia Driskell, the 66 year-old Nebraska woman who decided she was going to sue all gay people (that's right, ALL gay people) on behalf of God. Of course the judge threw it out, as it was ludicrous in the first place, but it does bring up a counter-move that we should consider.
Maybe it's time to file a criminal suit against God. And since Mrs. Driskell is his ambassador, then we'll name her as an accomplice... and the list of crimes is longer than a list of really long things.
So what would his punishment be? We just forget him... we move on. We relegate him to to superstition and move forward with our realistically based society.
So what is God on trial for?
For starters, Crimes Against Humanity.
The Crimes Against Humanity Initiative defines these crimes as:
Murder
Extermination
Enslavement
Deportation or forcible transfer of population
Imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty in violation of fundamental rules of international law
Torture
Rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization, or any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity
Persecution against any identifiable group or collectivity on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender [...] aka Genocide
Enforced disappearance of persons
Apartheid;
Other inhumane acts of a similar character intentionally causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to mental or physical health
But I think we could also make a strong case for:
Abandonment
Child Abuse
Lying under oath
Pedophilia
Of course this is by no means an exhaustive list.
We have a strong case because we also have proof. That's right, God brags about all of his crimes. Unlike other war-criminals who try to coverup their deeds, God brags about them. They're all over his "BOOK."
I say we've got a good case. And since Sylvia Driskell is God's Ambassador, then we'll name her in our case.
