This is the last of our four part series about how the phases of the Moon are used in reading personalities in an astrological birth chart.
Let's start with a NASA video about the dark side of the Moon:
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

We'll continue with a bit of a recap. The Moon itself does not have phases. It is the dance of our Sun and Moon that give us the phases of our Moon.
How does this dance give astrologers personality indicators of their clients? I'm glad you asked. Please follow below the orange curlicue for the answer.
The Sun in our birth chart is the strongest influence in our lives. It represents the life force, our will, our individuality and our unique divine spark. Whenever a planet (and , in astrology both the Sun and the Moon are referred to as planets) is in close proximity 0 to 10 degrees of the Sun, the individual qualities of that planet are superseded by the Sun.
In the case of the Moon, our unconscious reactions to life, either patterns from childhood or patterns from previous lives, our knee jerk reactions cannot be separated from who we are as individuals. That's why those born with a New Moon find it difficult to differentiate between their outer and inner worlds. For them, the world is full of new possibilities.
Those with a Waxing Crescent Moon phase are struggling to leave behind things that hold them back from choosing a new direction in their life.
The Waxing Quarter Moon phase personalities experience crises in the lives that demand they choose structures and foundations in their lives - both personally and in society.
The Waxing Gibbous Moon personalities test the structures and foundations. They modify and fine tune them so as to make them practical and valuable in the world.
The Full Moon personalities implement the structures and foundations in the world. This phase is the choosing of which structures and foundations will be followed and which will be discarded. These personalities look to see what has worked and what has not worked in their lives and in society.
The Waning Gibbous Moon phase personalities are inclined to share what they have learned about the structures and foundations that were implemented. Their inclination is to share their knowledge of the world with others.
Those with a Last Quarter Moon phase are in transition from the old to the new. Dane Rudhyar calls this a crisis in consciousness. Demetra George writes this crises in consciousness is that of turning away from old ideas that they no longer believe in. These personalities experience their crises within themselves by being in the midst of discarding the old and searching for the new within themselves while still externally interacting with the world in their old values. They are reassessing their beliefs, their thinking and evaluating new ways of being in the world.
These are the people who who tear down old structures in society that no longer serve. They must first do this inside of themselves before they can enact these changes in the world. The Last Quarter Moon personalities have their Moon 90 to 45 degrees behind the Sun.
The Balsamic Moon phase personalities often have intense, relationships with others. These are the visionaries, often ahead of their times. They are aware of both the past and the future and find ways to encompass both in their lives. They see things that are many years ahead of what most people are aware of by distilling the experiences in their lives. They are setting the stage for the seeds of the New Moon. They do this by encapsulating the ideas and structures of the seven previous lunation phases into a seed form to pass onto the next generation.
Often, they feel they have a special destiny in this lifetime which is the legacy they pass down in seed form. They are here for resolution of the past, forming strong bonds with others and passing on their legacies in seed forms. The Balsamic Moon personalities have their Moon 45 to 0 degrees behind the Sun.
Use the search engine of your choice to find out your lunation phase at birth and let me know in the comments if you think this describes your unconscious, knee jerk reactions to the world.
In closing, I want to mention that I agree with Demetra George that these lunation phases are best looked at in a birth chart while taking into account the current progressed phase of the Moon in a person's life. Every person goes through an entire lunation phase from one New Moon to the next in about 30 years. Each phase in the lunation cycle lasts about 3 and a half years. These progressed phases will give additional insight into the current personality of the person whose chart is being read.
Reading an astrological chart, at least for me, means turning away from linear thought processes towards a cyclical thinking in ever widening circles of life. It means synthesizing many different factors including not only what, how, when and where and why, but also how these factors interplay and react with one another. Additionally, a good astrologer will listen to a client and ask probing questions to find out how the different chart factors can best be described so as to be the most useful to a client. I may decide to de-emphazise the spiritual leanings I see in a chart if the person is concerned with career and money when they come for a reading. If a client is concerned with love relationships, I probably won't talk about their day to day work environment or their pets. I think the best astrologers meet the needs of their clients.
And, of course, Pink Floyd:
