The extremists trumpet how important family is and purport to be the defenders of 'family values', but at the same time intentionally or ignorantly act and promote policies that are totally anti-family. Somehow they imagine an idyllic world where there is a home with a mom at home taking care of the children and a dad working to support his family. A certainly laudable idea but because of the actions that the extremists have taken attacking workers, especially public employees who provide so many essential services to the community, the goal is nearly impossible.
Wages have been stagnant or declining, particularly in states dominated by the Koch brothers 'tools' like Wisconsin. Somehow the extremists claim to try to help working families by cutting taxes. The problem is they are cutting the taxes of the wealthy then everyone else may have a pittance of a tax break. They end up paying far more because then there are fees and service charges that exceed the minimal tax break they got.
The horrific hypocrisy that exists in the extremists actions toward working people is their intransigence toward increases in the minimum wage, efforts to thwart unions, eliminating prevailing wage laws, providing health care, and other simple benefits that actually make it possible for a family to exist and get ahead. It is completely impossible anywhere in the country for anyone to earn enough on minimum wage, or service sector wages for a family to survive on one income. Why does the person who makes your pizza, cleans the office, cooks in the cafeteria deserve less than a living wage? Why do teachers, police officers, or firefighters have to consider another job or leave the profession they have trained for and love to be able to provide for their family. Why do the extremists want to create a permanent underclass? Were things really that great when society was divided into only the upper and lower class, with the majority of people existing on a pittance.
The real Family Values Fallacy of these extremists is they somehow claim that they are 'righteous' and following God's will. This makes what they do even more unbelievable and unforgivable. How is treating any other human being as a lesser person anything but immoral? Shouldn't 'family values' mean every family, regardless of what they look like, be treated with dignity and respect. Shouldn't 'family values' mean all families have value!
