At long last, Jeb Bush's focus group
comes back with an answer.
BREAKING: Jeb answers the hypothetical: "knowing what we know now, I would have not engaged. I would have not gone into Iraq."
— @mikiebarb
It took three days and four tries, but Jeb Bush is finally willing to suggest that maybe if he knew that all the evidence was bunk and we weren't going to find any reconstituted chemical weapons and the result would be an Iraq in chaos, yeah maybe he wouldn't invade Iraq after all. Leadership!
That being said, Jeb Bush has loaded his foreign policy team with the precise neoconservatives who do still think the Iraq War was a good idea—his brother George included—so we should presume this break with neoconservative shooty-bomby-freedom-bringing is for television purposes only. But hey, now we know the focus group said it's all right for a Republican candidate to suggest he wouldn't go to war for abjectly terrible reasons. That's something, right?
