This is my first diary and I am going to jump in without a headline. Nothing I am about to say has anything to do with a news story. There will be no cops on blacks. There will be no riots. There will be no mud slinging. What you are about to read is only an opinion with a mingling of facts. I hope you understand and take it for what it's worth.
There's a lot of say about Bernie Sanders. As we all know, he recently announced his candidacy for President of the United States of America. I won't lie. Personally, I am a full supporter of him. Actually, I wish he didn't have to declare “Democrat” to have a chance, but if that's what it takes, so be it. I never was a supporter of the two party system. But if this is a step in the right direction, then I will put that foot before the other.
There are many out there who want Elizabeth Warren to run. However, she has made her claim. She has made it very clear that she has no desire to run for President and has stated that she can do more in Congress than as President; and I agree with her. So few people know that the President has VERY limited power. The majority of the power lies in Congress... so power to Elizabeth Warren on that claim.
With that said, here's my personal wish. I would love to see Bernie Sanders as President of the United States with Elizabeth Warren as Vice President. She did, after all, never say anything about Veep and that would help her maintain her desire regarding Congress. She merely stated that she wouldn't run as POTUS. So Berrnie... if, by some weird rare chance that you read this, please ask Elizabeth Warren to be your running mate.
I do believe that most of us can agree with Bernie's views on the future of the United States. If you don't, then chances are you're a closed minded right-wing bigot. Sorry... that's just the only way I can view it. Again, I feel the need to state that I am not a Democrat. I am an Independent. But I am a liberal. Let's pull that differentiation below the orange zest of life:
Too often, “Democrat” and “Liberal” are interchangeable in political dialogue. THAT'S NOT THE CASE and it annoys the crap out of me. “Liberal” is not a party. It's a mindset. “Progressive” is not a party. It's a mindset. That goes the same for “Republican” and “Conservative.” Let's keep that in mind as we move forward and as we make decisions in the future. My preference, personally, is that the two-party system finds its way to the deepest pits of hell and we actually have to vote for a CANDIDATE and not for his/her party. Because, let's be honest... most of you vote for party... not for candidate. And I am not saying this to sound “above” you... but I refuse to do that. I think the “straight ticket” needs to go away. That's a lazy vote. And this is where Bernie Sanders comes back into the discussion.
Many (most) of you who are reading this probably support Bernie. I will even go so far as to say that you will probably vote for him (Democrat ticket). So let me ask you this... if he ran as an Independent, would you vote the same way? Would you still support him? Or would you default to Hillary to “save your vote,” or worse yet, vote straight ticket? Do you see what I am getting at? We're supposed to be a Democracy. If we let parties get in the way, we are no longer a democracy. Vote your heart.
Vote and support Bernie Sanders. He is the best hope for the country. He doesn't put up with Congress' shit. He doesn't accept corporate donations. And he has a record of not mud slinging, but rather listening to the People of his District. And if you do a VERY mild search of YouTube, you will find his views on pretty much everything related to the Office of the President of the United States of America. Is there much more we can ask for?
