No one should say Hillary is inevitable. Or that supporters of other candidates are unrealistic. Not at this stage. It's destructive.
The time to vote your heart and your conscience is now. NOW we get to dream.
There's plenty of time later to hold our noses and vote for the latest neoliberal incarnation (whoever that might turn out to be) whose policies will screw the middle class and export jobs but who will not also offer a side dish of batshit crazy on social issues.
You know what the effect of the inevitability meme is? It's to make people stay home now and make it that much harder to get them up off their sofas on election day. The inevitability meme doesn't gain Hillary more votes in November, if she gets the nomination, it costs her votes.
On the other hand, everyone who gets involved volunteering for or sending money to a candidate is taking that step into the political process. I believe that once you engage in the struggle, you stay engaged; you don't stop just because your candidate didn't get the nomination.
Not voting is a habit. Voting is a habit. Which habit should this site be encouraging? People who get involved in political campaigns also learn skills they can bring to future candidates in future races. People who don't get involved don't build those skills for the future. What behavior should this site be encouraging?
And what should be done about diaries and comments that have the effect of reducing Democrats' campaigning skills and suppressing turnout in November?
I say to everyone, be for Hillary. Be for Sanders. Be for O'Malley. Be for Webb. Be for Chafee. Be for Biden. At this stage, it's all good. Be passionate. Let yourself be inspired. Just get off your butt and do something. Or at least make campaign contributions to help get our messages out. Act as if you care what happens to the country.
And don't ever stop. Don't ever stop.
