that are justifiably getting negative exposure on this site, I'd like to offer this one as a counterweight.
Providing young women with a safe place to play soccer means providing them with a space in which they can develop the communication, confidence, connection, caring, and character that will enable them to become leaders of nonviolent resistance in their communities.
As some of you know, my daughter, Mary, has been an activist for justice in Palestine for the past few years as a college student. Mary graduated from college a couple of weeks ago, and now she is going to Palestine to start a soccer camp for girls who live in Palestinian refugee camps. She and her partner in this effort, Beheya, applied for and were awarded a Davis Grant to get this started.
Here's the grant application. As is the case with most grants, it's a start, but more is needed for this to be a success.
If this is a cause that's interesting to you, check out Mary's GoFundMe page. It gives more details about what they're up to. (I must insert here that I'm JUST SO PROUD OF THESE YOUNG WOMEN.) Okay, that was my mommy thing. If you've got any spare cash to throw their way, that would be really great and for a wonderful, wonderful cause. Thanks.
