Tonight's guest on The Daily Show is Bill de Blasio and the panelists on The Nightly Show are Godfrey, Jamilah Lemieux, and Marc Lamont Hill.
Bill de Blasio is the 109th mayor of New York City. From 2010 to 2013, he held the citywide office of New York City Public Advocate, serving as an ombudsman between the electorate and the city government. He formerly served as a New York City Council member, representing the 39th District in Brooklyn, which contains Borough Park, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Kensington, Park Slope, and Windsor Terrace.
This means we will be talking New York politics or pizza.
Signs emerged Monday of a de-escalation in the public feud between New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, as both Democrats redirected their fire toward Republicans.
The men had exchanged sharp words for the past week, with Mr. de Blasio questioning Mr. Cuomo’s leadership in pushing initiatives to benefit New York City, and Mr. Cuomo saying the mayor is creating a “giveaway to developers” with his affordable-housing plan.
But Monday saw a cease-fire.
Detente Emerges in Feud Between Andrew Cuomo, Bill de Blasio
Mayor Bill de Blasio's proposed "mansion tax" increase might induce sellers to offer apartments at $1.75 million or less, the city's Independent Budget Office reported.
Mr. de Blasio proposed the measure last month, saying it would raise about $200 million annually to finance about 37,000 affordable apartments. The mayor has a goal of building or creating 200,000 such units by 2025.
New York state and the city already have mansion taxes. A residential property selling for more than $1 million and up to $1.75 million is subject to a combined surcharge of 2.825%, said the IBO, a public fiscal monitor.
Under Mr. de Blasio's plan, once a price exceeds $1.75 million, the city would assess an additional 1% on the entire purchase price and 1.5% on any amount over $5 million.De Blasio mansion-tax hike may keep home prices below $1.75M, IBO says
Well that does not sound correct at all. Everybody knows we cannot burden the wealthy with having to pay higher taxes after all, having that much wealth is already a burden. And to use that money for affordable housing? That is just the wrong thing to be doing. If people want to afford housing they should just stop slacking off and get real jobs like the guys on Wall Street. :D
