Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. Every time I see something on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I can't help but think "what about?" When I think of great concerts I have seen over the years I am constantly amazed that some of the groups are not in the Hall of Fame. So I thought today we could nominate our favorite performers who have been ignored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I have lost track of the number of times I have rocked out to the Moody Blues. They are still touring to this day and continue to be one of the best bands period. I have watched them in outdoor venues like the Concord Pavilion and the Hollywood Bowl. I watched them at Harrah's Lake Tahoe. One of the most memorable concerts was at Red Rocks in Denver. The sky had been overcast all night. The Moody Blues were playing with the Denver Orchestra and were in the middle of Nights in White Satin. As the crescendo hit all of a sudden the moon came out from behind a cloud and we got a Jacob's Ladder effect right above the stage. This was Mother Nature's special effects at their best. The Moody Blues have been eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of fame for 20 years but nothing has been done to induct them in.
In looking through the website Not in the Hall of Fame I was stunned to see some of the names of the people not in there. I have had the pleasure of watching many of these great groups in concert and have the music of a lot more of them. Among the performers who are not in the Hall of Fame are names like Jethro Tull, Yes, Journey, Chicago, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Styx, and on and on.
So many of the great performers that I grew up with are missing. Maybe we should start a new place called Too Good to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
