There's a security guy at the data center where I often work named Joe. He's from Staten Island, watches Fox News, and reads the Post. Joe and I used to go back and forth a lot as he checked me in every morning. Eventually, I think, we both got tired of it because it was the same old shit every time. Joe would recite some Hannity or Limbaugh garbage, I'd respond with some facts, yadda yadda yadda. So in recent months, we've just said our hellos and made small talk about the weather. After HRC's "big speech" a week or two ago, he asked me, "So, you excited for Hillary after that speech?" Joe seemed surprised when I shrugged and said, "Nah, Bernie Sanders is where it's at." Joe had heard the name, but had no idea who Bernie is. I told him Bernie is the only candidate for either party that cares more about you and me than he cares about money and power.
So this morning, I walk in and Joe is just getting off his shift. He rushed out from the break room when he saw me, and the first words out of his mouth were, "Hey , I've come over to your side!" I said, "What, you've started rocking out to Phish and found you enjoy a nice toke every now and again?" (Joe lightheartedly calls me a dirty hippie sometimes.) "No," he says, "I love Bernie and I'm going to vote for him. Wall Street is killing us."
#FeelTheBern, Joe. Your epiphany is one of millions of small victories on the road to rebuilding this great country of ours.
