In his latest Daily Caller article, the perennial climate-denial churnalist, Michael Bastasch focuses on an exchange between Californian GOP Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. During a hearing, Rohrabacher asked McCarthy an irrelevant bit of climate trivia and feigned shock when McCarthy declined to answer (a situation she's faced before).
Doing his best "Gotcha!" move, Rep Rohrabacher asked McCarthy, "What percentage of the atmosphere is CO2?"
Admitting that she didn't "have that calculation," McCarthy responded with the more relevant measurement, saying CO2's atmospheric concentration has surpassed 400 parts per million. Rorhabacher then gleefully and indignantly provided the answer: CO2 is one-half of one-tenth of one percent of the atmosphere. His point is that, since it's such a small part of the total air, carbon dioxide can't "actually impact people's health." This, of course, is the logical equivalent of saying that spider bites can't actually impact people's health, since they only introduce a tiny percentage of toxin into the body. Even more bizarre than Rorhabacher's logical fallacy is the caption the Daily Caller News Foundation chose for their photo of the representative: "California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher can get away with a girly name like that in the hippy dippy golden state!"
Stay classy, Daily Caller. Stay classy.
