Like the Sheriff in the Sandra Bland case who was previously fired from his job as Hempstead Police chief for Racism, it's seems that Elton Mathis the prosecutor in Waller County - where 29-year-old Sandra Bland was stopped for an illegal lane change, had her head brutally smashed against the ground as she was arrested for "resisting" and then three days later supposedly found hung in her cell using a trash bag - seems to have few racial skeletons in his closet too.
Rev. Walter Pendleton claims he received
numerous threatening text messages fom Mathis after he questioned the prosecution rates by ethnicity in Waller County.
Pendleton alleged that after he requested information on prosecution rates by ethnicity in the county northwest of Houston, the prosecutor became abusive in text messages sent May 28.
"Don't ever call me again. You went over the line," Mathis wrote in one text.
Pendleton texted back that Mathis was engaging in "selective prosecution," according to a transcript provided by Pendleton.
Mathis: "You are too stupid to know what that word means." The prosecutor then cited examples of white public officials whom he had successfully prosecuted.
"My hounds ain't even started yet dumb ass," Mathis wrote. "Keep talking. When I talk people will listen. Keep talking and I will sue your ass for slander. It works both ways. 'Dr.' Take your fake Dr. Ass and jump off a high cliff."
Mathis apparently argues that these texts were not racial but were simple attacks on Rev. Pendleton's character.
“Those statements were made by me in anger, but I stand behind them,” Mathis said.
Yet Pendleton's character isn't at issue here, it's
Mathis' character and behavior that is in question.
Civil rights activists accuse Mathis of using his office to target minorities and political rivals while allowing friends and allies to evade prosecution
All of this has now become relevant because of Mathis nonchalance in the Bland case.
“I do not have any information that would make me think it was anything other than just a suicide,” Waller County D.A. Elton Mathis told the news station.
The Case is now being looked into
by the FBI.
