During the Netroots Nation conference, former Governor Martin O'Malley, when confronted with Black Lives Matter protesters shouting "Black Lives Matter", responded with "All Lives Matter"
Of course, that pissed people off. Tone deafness. The appearance of blowing off their cause.
He has since apologized.
"I meant no disrespect. That was a mistake on my part and I meant no disrespect. I did not mean to be insensitive in any way or communicate that I did not understand the tremendous passion, commitment and feeling and depth of feeling that all of us should be attaching to this issue"
Perhaps he needs a staffer that can help prep him for possible event scenarios. "If you're met with BLM protesters, respond with X. If it's people regarding Issue Y, respond with Z"
