A Pocatello, Idaho police officer is being
charged with unnecessary assault by a policeman.
Detective Steven Westfall is being charged in connection to an arrest made on July 10, 2015. According Police Chief Scott Marchand, during the arrest Westfall allegedly used unnecessary force to subdue the suspect.
Bannock County Prosecutor Steve Herzog said the videotape captures actions that exceed what a police officer should do.
“I looked at the video and to me it was inappropriate,” Herzog said. “The guy's in handcuffs and there are a number of options to restrain him and keep him from taking flight.”
Below is the video from the Idaho State Journal:
"What do you think should happen to Westfall for this incident involving a suspect? Should he lose his job? Should he be convicted of assault?" the Idaho State Journal asks.
