Who cares what I said in 2008?
Just wow. Mike Huckabee has been on the war path about President Obama's Iran nuclear deal, calling it "idiotic" and
worse yet:
"This president's foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians," he said. "By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven."
Wait a second, Huck, does that mean you're having second thoughts about that thoughtful
5,000-word piece you authored for
Foreign Affairs magazine as a candidate in 2008?
"Whereas there can be no rational dealings with al Qaeda, Iran is a nation-state seeking regional clout and playing the game of power politics we understand and can skillfully pursue. We cannot live with al Qaeda, but we might be able to live with a contained Iran. Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons on my watch. But before I look parents in the eye to explain why I put their son's or daughter's life at risk, I want to do everything possible to avoid conflict."
The Huckster further elaborated on the differences between Al Qaeda and Iran:
"Both Iran and al Qaeda seek not just to dominate Israel but to destroy it and control the Palestinians. And I will not waver in standing by our ally Israel. The main difference between these two enemies is that al Qaeda is a movement that must be destroyed, whereas Iran is a nation that just has to be contained."
Apparently, the Huckster viewed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's Iran as a kinder, gentler and more reasonable country than its current iteration. Either that, or he's so desperate to claw his way into notoriety among the GOP's 16 candidates, that he's not all that concerned anymore about having to "look parents in the eye to explain why I put their son's or daughter's life at risk."
Now, that's a man who has the courage of his convictions.
