The Safari Club International, scifirstforhunters is a club for wealthy and privileged big game trophy "hunters." SCI bills itself as a conservationist organization. Of course, the courageous Walter Palmer happens to be a member of this club.
The SCI is headquartered in Tucson, Arizona. I do not write this diary to rant against the Safari Club International or similar groups, whose members possess a character flaw that gives them a great big woody killing wild animals with nothing more than high powered rifles and state-of-the-art bow hunting technology... from a safe distance.
I simply would like to clarify a confusion that is local to the Tucson area.
Safari Club International operates an attraction they call the International Wildlife Museum, it is located on Gates Pass Rd. a short drive west from Downtown Tucson. Further west, just beyond the Tucson Mountains, is another attraction known as the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. I encounter tourists and newcomers to the area who are confused, conflating the names, thinking there is just The Desert Wildlife Museum. I allay their confusion by distinguishing the chasm of difference between each attraction.
The Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum link is an award winning showcase featuring wildlife native to the Sonoran Desert in their natural habitat. The animals are alive, and can be observed going about their daily business.
At the Safari Club operated International Wildlife Museum, you can view dioramas of stuffed animals from all parts of the world. Presumably, the dead animals were provided by brave members who donated their "trophy's."
If you are planning a visit to Tucson; enjoy our sunshine, dry air, and great Mexican
food. But don't get confused by the two Museums; one legitimately supports wildlife and education about wildlife, the other is supported by blood sport of wealthy, privileged, people who get a kick out of killing animals.
