He and his brother are just all heart.
The Koch brothers have
summoned their chosen Republican presidential candidates—Jeb! Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker and Carly Fiorina (seriously? Fiorina?)—to come kiss their rings and grovel before the 450 biggest donors to the Koch network. To prime the pump a little, Charles Koch
sent an incredible letter to those donors. Incredible for its chutzpah.
In a letter to network donors, Koch herald the leadership of William Gladstone, the liberal prime minister who ran Britain during the Victorian age. Gladstone was known both for his populism and for his advocacy of limited government and reducing taxes, two central principles supported by the Koch-backed political network.
"It was Gladstone who said, 'This, if I understand it, is one of those golden moments in our history, one of those opportunities which may come and may go, but which rarely returns,'" Koch wrote in a letter obtained by The Washington Post. "I hope you share this same sense of urgency about our commitment to restoring freedom and opportunity for all Americans, especially the least fortunate."
Because the Kochs care "especially" about the least fortunate. That's why their chief strategist rails against the minimum wage,
saying it would lead to fascism. And why they have been
fighting Medicaid expansion. And why they continue to support efforts to
dismantle Social Security and Medicare. Not to mention killing Obamacare. Yep, it's all about making sure the least fortunate have the freedom and opportunity to live and die miserable and destitute, without the interference of big government.
