Scott Walker campaigning at a Harley-Davidson dealership in Las Vegas, NV.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has been brandishing the Harley-Davidson brand like some sort of personalized American flag for his 2016 candidacy. Only problem is, every one of those cycles is adorned with a sticker that reads "Union made in the USA." In fact, Harley-Davidson has become a model of how corporations can foster mutually beneficial work relationships with unions,
reports Emily Flitter.
But Scott Walker don't care. He's been visiting Harley dealerships at campaign stops and riding his own personal hog all over Iowa in a bid to claim himself "Mr. Everyman USA." Too bad he's a traitor to the brand.
Some of the people who build Harleys - more than a thousand of whom are unionized workers in Wisconsin - are fuming over Walker's prominent use of the bikes in his campaign.
"He's trying to make a name for himself by saying 'I took on 100,000 union workers' - and he's on our bikes," said Andy Voelzke, 57, who works at Harley's plant just outside Milwaukee and is a member of the United Steelworkers union.
"It's just such a contradiction."
Let's face it, the guy's a straddler. Doesn't matter whether we're talking Harleys or abortion—there hasn't been an issue yet on which Scott Walker doesn't like to have one foot planted firmly on either side of it. Best part of his Harley schtick is, the suit-wearing, personal-jet flying Donald Trump is still upstaging Walker and his hog.
Walker may already have some ground to make up among Harley lovers. Ten out of a group of 11 riders approached by Reuters in downtown Milwaukee on Tuesday named front-runner Donald Trump as their early favorite in the race for the Republican nomination.
Damn that Trump!
