MSNBC finally announced that they would cancel several of their shows, including Ed Schultz's show. Overall, I like Ed Schultz, but he does have one major flaw: he routinely punted on criticizing Obama. Maybe not the worst Obama apologist, it was always a disappointment to watch Ed when Obama showed his corporate colors.
On many of the issues, Ed would do some good work and analysis. He would demonstrate plenty of passion with regards to progressive causes. However, Ed was loathed to call Obama out when he watered down progressive legislation or sided with corporations, and you could see this on Ed's show.
The latest example was fast track of TPP. Ed would give other free trade Democrats a hard time for voting for fast track of TPP. He would point out that free trade Democrats are beholden to corporate interests, and rightly so. However, Ed would plaintively ask guests, "What is Obama thinking when it comes to pushing for the TPP?"
Well, Ed. Why isn't Obama doing the same thing that other free trade and corporate loving Democrats have done? They are dancing to corporate America's tune. And if Democrats who take money from corporations are doing their donors bidding, how is Obama any different?
However, Ed has been acting like a dog with a bone when it comes to Hillary Clinton and the TPP. He has called her out repeatedly for not taking a stand against the TPP. This would be fair if Ed showed the same determination to call out Obama for pushing this sellout of American workers. But let's face facts. TPP would not have gone anywhere without Obama supporting it, so the fault for this latest corporate sellout lies with Obama.
Would Ed still be on TV if he had criticized Obama? I don't know. But I do know that they have given his time slot to Chuck Todd.
Enough said.
