Hillary Clinton didn't waste any time Friday impugning Jeb!'s "Right to Rise" campaign slogan by highlighting his plans to
phase out Medicare and repeal Obamacare and his criticisms of a federal minimum wage and affirmative action. Here she is
addressing the National Urban League:
“I don’t think you can credibly say that everyone has a right to rise and then say you’re for phasing out Medicare, or repealing Obamacare,” Clinton charged. “People can’t rise if they can’t afford health care. They can’t rise if the minimum wage is too low to live on. They can’t rise if their governor makes it harder for them to get a college education. And you can’t seriously talk about the right to rise and support laws that deny the right to vote.”
Clinton was the first presidential candidate to speak at the annual conference, where Jeb! was scheduled to speak later. His campaign spokespeople weren't too thrilled with Clinton's reality check.
Ah, Republicans ... the consummate uniters.
All 21 presidential candidates were invited to address the conference but only five did: Democrats Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O'Malley and Republicans Jeb! Bush and Ben Carson.
Following the speech, which took place in Florida, Clinton left to make another speech calling for an end to the embargo on Cuba—another jab at Jeb!
It draws a sharp contrast with two top Republican presidential contenders from Florida, Sen. Marco Rubio and former Gov. Jeb Bush, at a time when younger Cuban-American voters in Florida are softening their stance on the matter.
