Wherever you go, there never seems to be a shortage of (often amusing, sometimes ridiculous) TV personal injury lawyer commercials. Some of these lawyers are so familiar to us that we have their toll-free numbers stuck in our heads.
In western Pennsylvania, there were two major names in personal injury lawsuits: Edgar Snyder and Berger & Green. I remember Edgar Snyder for his ominous dog bite commercials:
When I was a young Chrislove, I had a "paper" route delivering what was basically a weekly compilation of local business ads. In other words, I was a real-life spammer. One time, a guy threatened to to sick his dog on me, so--being quite opinionated, well-spoken, and verbose for my age--I wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper (which got published) recounting the experience and issuing a vague threat to employ the services of Edgar Snyder if such a dog-sicking ever occurred. And that's how I got my start...now I'm writing diaries on Daily Kos. But that's a tangent.
Then there was Berger & Green, which featured some of the more high-pitched commercials about GETTING. YOU. MONEY. NOW! When I rewatched this commercial today, I found that I remembered and could repeat the toll-free number along with him.
And then I moved to Houston. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw my first "Texas Hammer" commercial, which makes Larry Green look tame by comparison.
Point is, we all have our "favorite" local lawyers. But perhaps none has a more devoted fan than does Morris Bart, a well-known personal injury lawyer who serves Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas.

Who is Morris Bart's rabidly devoted fan? Well, this fan is a little younger than you might have expected. It is none other than two-year-old Grayson Dobra of Prairieville, Louisiana. It turns out, little Grayson has almost literally been weaned on Bart's commercials. The Advocate has more:
When her son turned 2 years old earlier this year, L’erin Dobra had the typical quandary — choosing a birthday party theme. Pirate? Firefighter? Superhero? Harry Potter? What?
It turns out, little Grayson had been giving her hints.
“Before he could walk or talk, every time the Morris Bart commercial would come on, he was just fixated,” she says. “You couldn’t talk to him. You couldn’t do anything with him. He would just sit and stare at the TV. You could call his name, give him a toy. He didn’t care. He just wanted to watch the Bart commercial. He’s been that way ever since, and when he started talking he would say, ‘One call’ or ‘Bart, Bart, Bart, Morris Bart, Morris Bart.’
“They were not his first words, but they were a close second and third,” says Dobra.
[...]
“He has always been so fascinated with the commercials,” his mom says. “He always just randomly says, ‘One call, that’s all.’ He likes to watch the reruns of the commercials on YouTube. So, coming to his second birthday party, there’s all this pressure. We had a Mickey Mouse party for his first birthday, and I didn’t want to do the same thing.”
We all had our obsessions as children. Some are weirder than others. This one is pretty weird, but hilariously adorable.
So, what is there to do when your toddler is obsessed with Morris Bart? I guess throw him a Morris Bart-themed birthday party! Grayson's second birthday party was all Bart. There was a Bart birthday cake, a Bart cardboard cutout, and a Bart T-shirt. And it was a hit, at least with Grayson.
Grayson's mom also called Bart's New Orleans office, and while Bart couldn't make it to the party, the office sent a signed portrait (I'm guessing there isn't a particularly high demand for Morris Bart autographs, but who knows).
And there's more great news for Grayson:
When Morris Bart himself read about the birthday party, he was delighted. "It brought a big smile to my face," he told HuffPost, adding, "It's nice to be embraced in such a flattering way."
Bart has invited Grayson and the whole Dobra family to visit his law offices and meet him in person. "I would love the opportunity to meet him," he said.
Bart also speculated on why this story has gone so viral:
Think of how many millions of people were fascinated by some local jingle or local commercial on television when they were growing up. I think that's why this story has really resonated with so many.
I think that's about right. He added:
Watch out sports heroes -- here come the lawyers!
It's about time personal injury lawyers got some love.
Did you have any local personality/commercial/jingle obsessions as a kid, or other weird obsessions?
Now, on to the tops...
