Regal Cinemas takes a step to ensure the safety of guests
At least one major theater chain has announced a new bag check policy in the wake of recent attacks in movie theaters. Regal Cinema theaters will start
checking bags:
Security issues have become a daily part of our lives in America. Regal Entertainment Group wants our customers and staff to feel comfortable and safe when visiting or working in our theatres. To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, backpacks and bags of any kind are subject to inspection prior to admission. We acknowledge that this procedure can cause some inconvenience and that it is not without flaws, but hope these are minor in comparison to increased safety.
Regal Cinema operates
572 theaters in 42 states.
Within a day of the new policy, Regal Cinemas is already facing a backlash on their Facebook page:
On Regal's Facebook page, backlash came quickly from across the country with some complaining about medical safety issues, and others about conceal carry gun rights.
One woman posted on the company's Facebook page, "Just returned 2 movie tickets because ticket collector wanted to check my bag for a gun... Didn't ask to frisk my husband who was also carrying so i guess your policy isn't flawless."
