Domestic animals need evacuation and shelter during wildfires as much as humans. But evacuation shelters for humans will not accept your pet dogs and cats, certainly not horses, pigs, goats and other livestock. Parrots and birds are yet another group who need special shelter, often extending after evacuations are lifted because the lingering smoke is especially harmful.
North Valley Animal Rescue Group (CA) moves horses during the Rocky Fire (Lake County CA, 2015).
Animal welfare groups in Washington have set up shelters and are seeking donations to fund animal care and feeding, as well as costs associated with moving animals out of harm (such as gas for vehicles).
Wenatchee Valley Humane Society (WVHS) is providing shelter for pets and Animal Care & Control trucks are taking supplies to Chelan, Entiat and anywhere they are needed. If you need assistance, have lost a pet or found a stray, please call them at 509-662-9577.
Can you help? Donations will help us to replenish supplies and purchase equipment needed for our disaster response team such as a generator, walkie- talkies, mobile communication, kennels, transportation and more. DONATE HERE and put "emergency fund" in the memo.
Parrots require special shelter conditions due to their extreme high temperature and smoke sensitivities. APR (All Parrot Rescue) in Pierce County WA is family-run rescue offering shelter to evacuated parrots. Please consider
donating to APR for the evacuated parrots and those already in residence. (These are friends of mine who do excellent work in their home.)
APR is providing shelter for parrots displaced due to fires.

Emergency animal shelters have been established at Omak Stampede Grounds, Okanogan Fairgrounds, and Tonasket Rodeo Grounds.
Tonasket Rodeo Grounds reports
We have limited space for horses, but we are willing to help out with any needs. There are open spaces for trailers at the Rodeo Grounds. We can haul horses. Make sure you have physical address and exact directions. Tonasket Comancheroes are working in conjunction with the Okanogan County Cattlemans Association to receive donations of hay for those who have lost pasture and actual stacks of hay.
Washington State Animal Response Team (WASART) has information on their
Facebook page about animal shelters for evacuees. At this time, their biggest donation need is money to pay for gas and items easier for them to pick up. You can donate

We're in Brewster and have set up a companion animal shelter in Brewster Elementary, across the street from Brewster High School where the Red Cross shelter is set up. Our first four-legged guests have checked in so their humans can take care of themselves at the Red Cross shelter we are next to. Our initial team spent the day traveling, working out some logistics, and setting up the shelter. People from a number of different cities such as Tonasket and Winthrop have been evacuated and are sheltering in Brewster. Some, of course, have lost their homes and others don't know the state of theirs. It's a loss and a situation we can't imagine, but we are doing what we can to provide them comfort by taking care of their animals for them.
Northwest Equine has
a webpage on their classified section for people to post offers of food, hay, pasture, etc. for no charge. If you don't want to make your offer quite that public, WASART set up a
short form to fill out. The resulting information goes to WASART leadership and emergency managers as necessary. No information will be made public without permission or sold or traded.
Additional animal rescue and shelter information is reported in this Examiner article.
