Cameraman Adam Ward managed to get a shot of the shooter.
Police have released the name of the suspected gunman and the pursuit continues. (EDIT: Early reports listed his name as Lester Lee Flanagan, but multiple news outlets now confirming his name is Vester Lee Flanagan II)
Police are actively searching for Flanagan:
Augusta County Sheriff's Office reports that police are looking for Lester Lee Flanagan. He may be in a 2009, gray Ford Mustang with Virginia tags WZE-8846. He was described as a light skinned black male, with brown eyes and black hair, 6 foot 3 inches tall and approximately 250 pounds. They believe he is armed with a handgun.
Police believe the suspect headed north on I-81 and is in Staunton or Waynesboro near I-64, reports the News Leader. It also reports officers are watching traffic near Fishersville. Augusta County Sheriff's Office authorities could not confirm that information.
8:21 AM PT: I'm not going to link to it, but the shooter is allegedly live tweeting and apparently filmed himself committing the murders. The video is far to heinous to share. Please do not link to it in the comments.
8:33 AM PT: Vester Lee Flanagan appeared to be using the alias "Bryce Williams" and is actively sending messages to news outlets. He had been using social media, but Twitter and Facebook very quickly shut down his accounts.
There appears to be confusion as to whether Vester Lee Flanagan is dead. Multiple outlets had previously confirmed with police that he had died of self-inflicted gunshot wound, but police now saying he's still alive:
The man suspected of killing two WDBJ7 employees Wednesday morning shot himself on I-66 in Faquier County, according to state police.
The suspected shooter has been identified as Vester Lee Flanigan, also known as Bryce Williams. He is still alive and is in critical condition. Previously, state police said Flanigan was dead.
