The news came in this morning that 7 Klamath Falls police officers had requested to be placed on non-disciplinary administrative leave for undisclosed reasons. The leave was granted not by their immediate supervisor, Sheriff Frank Skrah, but the Klamath County Board of Commissioners. Sheriff Skrah said in a public statement that the leaves were granted without his knowledge.
Sheriff Skrah is being investigated by the Oregon Department of Justice for allegedly beating a prisoner in handcuffs and other incidents involving the use of excessive force.
The deputies had asked for leave through their union to avoid retaliation from the Sheriff. There are 30 officers total on the police force so having 7 go off-duty will git the police department a huge hit.
I can find no information on whether the incidents involved minority groups. Klamath Falls is 85% white and 4.4% Native American.
Skrah was a police officer for years with the LA Police department.
