I want to let any Portland Metro Kossacks know about a festival happening
Day: Sept. 20th
Time: 12:00PM to 4:00PM.
Location: SE 122nd Ave. and Division in the Division Center
More information below the fold.
There will be a Taste of the Nations Tent in which there will be food from Vietnam, China, Mexico, Somalia, and Ethiopia. There will be free samples and food to purchase. We had Russian food, but they couldn't make it.
In the tent will be a video of families from different countries showing how they shop, prepare food, set their tables, and enjoy a family meal.
There will also be food outside the tent for purchase, including BBQ
There will be music from Grupo Latitudes (Latin American Folk Music with Andean instruments), African Showboyz (African Pop music) and a Nepali band that plays an eclectic style including a rock/blues fusion.
One of the dance performances will be by a group raising funds for relief for survivors of the Nepal earthquake.
The event will have over 60 vendors with different things to buy, and demonstrations including basket weaving, a model train set, brain teasers, and a welding artist who will let the kids bang on some medal.
Speaking of kids, there will be face painting, balloons, shaved ice from Vietnam, and Mexico, and there will be the obligatory clown (nice one, not scary).
East Portland is the most diverse part of the city. Everyone from the rest of the Metro area is invited to come and enjoy this coming together of many cultures that make up our community. This is what we all should be doing, enjoying our commonalities of food, music, dance, and a general desire to have fun. Please come.
