President Obama faced republican backlash over Jeremiah Wright and Van Jones. Cornel West supported and participated in Louis Farrakhan's 1995 Million Man March. One can imagine what republicans in a presidential general election will say about Cornel West's continued support for and involvement with Louis Farrakhan. As well as the second quote below on Marxist Theory. Bernie Sanders will find himself in a similar position as President Obama.
Cornel West wrote that the march was intended to "jump-start a critical dialogue on the legacy of white supremacy" with President Clinton and Congress, "send a sign of hope and a sense of possibility" to black Americans, and--perhaps most importantly--magnify the marchers' demand that "black suffering take center stage for the country and world."
“In a time in which Communist regimes have been rightfully discredited and yet alternatives to neoliberal capitalist societies are unwisely dismissed, I defend the fundamental claim of Marxist theory: there must be countervailing forces that defend people's needs against the brutality of profit driven capitalism.”― Cornel West, The Cornel West Reader
Cornel West has referenced President Obama using numerous derisive comments. With the overwhelming support President Obama receives from the African-American community, it will be interesting to see how much help Cornel West will be to Bernie Sanders with the African-American vote.
