The most famous quote of our Revolutionary era:
A Republic -- If you can keep it!
... was what elder statesman
Benjamin Franklin explained had been agreed by the USA's Founding Fathers (mainly much younger than Ben)
"Keeping it" keeps getting harder and harder, as can be seen in
(former general) President Eisenhower's farewell warning of:
"unwarranted influence ... by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist."
Since then, of course, we have lost the ability to even know of this complex's size or activities -- internationally or domestically -- except when it is disclosed to us by whistle-blowers -- illegally, and at great personal cost and risk.
The above two quotes are the starting point for the following music video, which connects these quotes with the goals and hard work of Martin Luther King, and of Bernie Sanders, with guest appearances by Elizabeth Warren and Symone Sanders. The video is posted on the Blue America Act Blue page for Progressive Congressional candidates, who would vote to increase the transparency and reduce the power of weapon makers and other wielders of financial-cum-political power. Please check out the video, and especially the candidates,
before tonight's quarter-end.
Also consider supporting DailyKos's own Angela Marx in WA-03.
Blue America also has this Senate Act Blue page, for Donna Edwards, Russ Feingold, Alan Grayson and Ohio's P.G. Sittenfeld.
All these Progressives need our support. Without it, why should they, or other potential candidates, make the personal sacrifices of the hard work, and reduced personal privacy, of running for office?
