Good evening my kibitzing kibitzers!
The chances are good that I won't be around for tonight's diary, since we are in the middle of switching internet providers. It has been a clusterfudge from the get-go, but I know I'll have service with the new SpawnOfSatan on Saturday.
I know you can muddle through without me, but I'll give you this to start you off.....hop the orange-a-doodle (h/t to silky's Dixie Doodle) and have a kibitz.
Today is 30 September, the last day of the loveliest month (if you don't count May).
In 1399, Henry Bolingbroke is proclaimed King Henry IV of England upon the abdication of King Richard II. Henry was the eldest surviving son of John of Gaunt, duke of Lancaster.
Oh, the play's the thing!
He will give the devil his due. (1.2)
While you live, tell truth and shame the devil! (3.1)
The first volume of
Louisa May Alcott’s beloved children’s book Little Women is published on this day in 1868. The novel will go on to become Alcott’s first bestseller and a beloved children’s classic. Like the fictional Jo March, Alcott was the second of four daughters.
“I don't pretend to be wise, but I am observing, and I see a great deal more than you'd imagine. I'm interested in other people's experiences and inconsistencies, and, though I can't explain, I remember and use them for my own benefit.”
― Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
On September 30, 1927,
Babe Ruth hits his 60th home run of the 1927 season and with it sets a record that would stand for 34 years.
“Baseball is the greatest game in the world and deserves the best you can give it.”
Johnny Mathis was born on this date in 1935 in Gilmer, Texas, and raised in San Francisco the fourth of seven children. He showed an aptitude for music very early on, and he began his formal, classical voice training at the age of just 13.
Everyone of a "certain age" knows this one...famous for only three movies, James Dean met his untimely end on this date in 1955. At 5:45 PM, 24-year-old actor James Dean is killed in Cholame, California, when the Porsche Spyder he is driving hits a Ford Tudor sedan at an intersection.
Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today.
Oh. And because it's me....here's your gratuitous pootie pic:
I have felt cats rubbing their faces against mine and touching my cheek with claws carefully sheathed. These things, to me, are expressions of love.
James Herriot
Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
Robert A. Heinlein
Yer welcome.
So. What's shaking your corner of the the world tonight? Pull up a chair and do tell!
Don't forget to hang your links on the tip jar so everyone can see them, please!

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
