Your millions of tax dollars at "work."
House Democrats have been tracking the progress of the
Attack Hillary Clinton select committee Benghazi select committee, day-by-day, dollar-by-dollar. As of
this week, we're closing in on $4.6 million spent by the party of fiscal responsibility to discover that Hillary Clinton did something that may or may not have had anything to do with Benghazi. That's taken more than 500 days.
Here's how that breaks down compared to select committees that actually did stuff:
HURRICANE KATRINA
- Select Bipartisan Committee to Investigate the Preparation for and Response to Hurricane Katrina
- 5 months and 1 day (2005-2006)
- Expended $86,607
PEARL HARBOR
- Joint Committee on Investigations of the Pearl Harbor Attack
- 9 months and 15 days (1945-1946)
- Not to exceed $25,000
[…]
IRAN-CONTRA
- Select Committee to Investigate Covert Arms Transactions with Iran
- 10 months and 13 days (1987)
- Expended $4 million according to press reports
CHURCH COMMITTEE
- Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities
- 1 year, 3 months, and 3 days (1975-1976)
- Not to exceed $750,000
WATERGATE
- elect Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities
- 1 year, 4 months, and 21 days (1973-1974)
- Not to exceed $2 million
9/11 COMMISSION
- National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States
- 1 year, 7 months, and 25 days (2002-2004)
- Expended $15 million according to press reports
This is going to take longer than the Watergate hearings, and they were about actual illegal activities in the White House. What again, exactly is Benghazi about? Oh, that's right,
driving down Hillary Clinton's poll numbers. They should make the Kochs reimburse the American taxpayers for this one.
