It's a well-known fact amongst us rational people that the Religious Right's hate-on for Planned Parenthood circles around an unhealthy, puritanical view on human sexuality, women's rights, and contraception itself. Myths abound, such as that sex ed and organizations that offer services related to sex only encourage people to be promiscuous (false), that Planned Parenthood's bread-and-butter is abortion (a load of crap), and that women use abortion as a form of birth control (as made up as Goldilocks).
It's an error to refer to this crowd as "pro-life", as they like to call themselves. If they were truly "pro-life", they'd not only be caring about fetuses; they'd also care about people who have actually been born. But, they do not. As far as they're concerned, once you leave the womb, if you're less fortunate, you can go ahead and croak. The proper term for these people is "anti-choice". The hypocrisy is simply stunning.
Not pictured: an evil empire's stronghold.
Despite the fact their whole shtick is more full of holes than a webworm-infested tree's leaves, there's a whole lot of them that wholeheartedly believe in this militant anti-choicery. Like other common right-wing rhetoric, it's dangerous--literally.
They paint this as a "war". They're "on the battlefield", standing up for "morals" and "the babies"! Us pro-choicers are "baby killers", who "enjoy" seeing "babies get killed". We "have to be stopped"! They're the "defenders of life"! Needless to say, this is the perfect environment for radicals to feel comfortable carrying out violence against pro-choice people and entities; such violence has come to fruition many times before.
And, it has happened again. A Planned Parenthood clinic in California was broken into, and set alight, though, thankfully, the damage is relatively minor.
In a civilized country, this kind of far-right crap is, nearly universally, called "domestic terrorism". But here in the United States, as it is today, it's not called such at all by the mainstream media, nor by the right-wingers and their allies. Remember the lukewarm rhetoric about Dylann Roof, the twisted ass that opened fire at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston?
They're more just "unfortunate happenings" in their eyes. "Domestic terrorism" is a term saved for when the mythical "crazy American left" does much of anything, such as filming police.
Ooh! He had a camera! Is it Hallowe'en yet? 'Cause this "crazy left" simply has me shaking in my high-tops. The activist cameras might, you know, take my picture as I walk by a traffic stop!
