Interesting read (2012 New Yorker) about the history of Gun Rights according to the 2nd Amendment. It shows that it's all about INTERPRETATION and existing POLITICAL WILL.
Prior to 1977, the 2nd Amendment was interpreted quite differently and it was the conservative growth and awakening of the NRA, President Reagan and existing US Congress, that caused the current prevailing Gun Rights beliefs of today. The dramatic pendulum swing towards right-wing conservatism, that gained momentum in the Reagan 1980's can be countered and moved back to more moderate or even progressive INTERPRETATIONS (via Supreme Court) if we have the POLITICAL WILL.
Read this article and understood the impact the Supreme Court decision: District of Columbia v Heller, had on giving validity to NRA arguments. Why not map out a pathway to insure future Supreme Court decisions that will modify or eliminate Heller Decision. This pathway has to start with succeeding in 2016 elections. http://www.newyorker.com/...
