Bernie Sanders is surging among likely California Democratic primary voters according to the California Filed poll that was released this morning, which also shows support for Hillary Clinton plummeting in California.
The results of the poll are absolutely stunning - Sanders has surged to within 12 points of Clinton, with the race now at 47% to Clinton to 35% for Sanders. In five months, Sanders support in California has surged 26 percentage points, skyrocketing from 9% to 35%, a stunning development in a state like California where the Sanders campaign hasn't spent a penny on television adverting. In five months, Hillary Clinton's support has plummeted 19 percentage points, dropping from 66% to 47%.
Clinton has also seen a huge drop in terms of excitement within the state of California over her candidacy:
While Clinton remains ahead among likely voters in the Democratic primary, excitement for her candidacy has waned, according to the poll. Thirty-seven percent of likely Democratic primary voters said they would react enthusiastically if Clinton won the nomination, down 9 percentage points from May.
California is the big prize in the fight for the Democratic nomination for president in 2015. The results of the primary will dictate how many delegates each candidate receives, who will ultimately pick the nominee at the Democratic National Convention next summer. California is allocated 478 delegates, 264 of which will be allocated by congressional district based on the primary vote, and another 88 will be allocated based on the primary vote statewide.
So if you live in California, keep doing what you are doing - because the affect of what every volunteer on the ground is doing is clearly having a huge impact, based on the results of this poll.
