As one who does not want a Republican in the White House in 2016, I try to refrain from divisive talk within the progressive field of candidates. I do support Bernie Sanders for President, but I do not wish to tear down other candidates in order to achieve that goal. However, as a servicemember, I cannot ignore what Hillary Clinton recently said in an email to business executives, and hopefully neither will you.
The International Business times just published an article which revealed the contents of an email released by the State Department on Wednesday. The email, which was addressed to corporate executives and specifically mentioned Exxon-Mobil and J.P. Morgan, stated that, "It's time to start thinking of Iraq as a business opportunity." Further in the email, Iraq was referred to as a “market where your companies can make money."
We all knew that the war in Iraq specifically benefited business interests, but it is more shocking to hear this straight from the horse's mouth. It would be expected of a Republican to say this, but to hear this from the current front-runner of the Democratic Party is disappointing.
