Ted Cruz thinks the military really needs to concentrate on two goals:
1) killing bad guys
2) kicking out people who don't meet his standards regardless of whether they're good at killing bad guys.
Here's the ever-enlightened Cruz Monday commenting on the military's efforts to scrap its prohibition of transgender service as he courted right wingers in Iowa:
"How about having the military focusing on hunting down and killing the bad guys ... instead of treating it as this crucible for social justice innovations. We’ve lost sight of what their job is and that’s what we need to get back to."
Cruz, of all people, is perhaps the least qualified person to be critiquing who's lost sight of what their job is. Perhaps, he should get to work on passing some bills. Or perhaps he's content with
that one he passed that one time. Or perhaps there just isn't time for legislating when you're contemplating the big issues of the day—like whether you would reinstate "don't ask, don't tell" if elected president.
Cruz said he would "listen to the expert judgment of the generals and admirals" on the current situation and that military policy should follow what is needed for "good order and discipline" and not social issues.
"We shouldn't view the military as a cauldron for social experiments," Cruz said.
True, Ted. People should be judged by their ability to do their job. Nothing more, nothing less. But glad to see you offering up some of that visionary 21st century leadership you've got in store for the country.
