Although most of my democratic friends are heehawing and guffawing about the latest republican meltdown - that being, among many others, the chaos in the House - I take no delight.
I am not one of those who said 'it's about time' when tan-man John Boehner dropped his gallon of Mad Dog 20-20 long enough to announce he was blowing Washington (not everyone there, only the Freedom Caucus) for his favorite pub near Cincinnati as soon as fucking possible.
I wish Speaker Boehner no harm when he finally gets back to his favorite watering hole and cigarette machine (he'll be happy to know it now takes hundred dollar bills) in Ohio but in the meantime when Congress returns next week from yet another vacation there's a lot of work ahead.
(Please continue below the fold - that's newspaper jargon.)
Actually, I have feelings for Paul Ryan - not the Chris Matthews 'love of Obama' feelings that were 'trickling down his leg' - who is currently at home in Wisconsin playing with his wife, children and, maybe, himself while he tries to determine if he wants to attempt to herd - not cats - a large collection of idiots as Speaker of the House.
But one thing that has really pissed me off about this dilemma is that our side is trying to fund raise off of a disaster. Trust me, it would do us no good for the government to shut down; it would do us no good to default on the full faith and credit of the United States. Anyone who thinks those two opportunities are winners, raise your hand.
The next minute - it seemed - after Kevin McCarthy crapped in his coffee and Paul Ryan's name was floated as the next Speaker, I got a fund raising email from the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) suggesting that I sign a petition opposing Ryan and, of course, rush a few bucks because Act Blue has my credit card number.
Whoa, Nellie. Let's not let the 'card' get in front of the jack ass and I assume that Ben Ray Lujan (D - Hopefully not as stupid as Louie Gohmert) - who is the DCCC chairman - is responsible for what I consider nonsense.
I take my yellow-dog Democrat status seriously but don't you think I should support the ability to govern even more?
Last time I checked (10 seconds ago) we vote for folks we believe can get the job done. But it seems to me that getting the job done is much more important than who we vote for.
And the most pressing job is that we DO NOT shut down the government and that we DO NOT default on the full faith and credit of the United States.
From what I can tell from my limited knowledge of Republican politics is that Paul Ryan is the one most likely to see that those two things happen.
If not Ryan, who?
As long as John Boehner continues to agree to hang around and 'clean the barn' we'll be okay but my preference would be for the Republicans to elect a speaker who could possibly herd those idiots into an entity which could actually govern.
Wouldn't that be a change for the better?
If Chairman Lujan (D-Get off your ass and get to work) really wanted to be helpful he could come here to the 11th Congressional District in Florida and find us a great candidate.
Our current representative - who represents nobody except himself - is Rich Nugent who claims to be a republican but - you guessed it - is actually a member of the Freedom Caucus.
District voters - not me - sent him to Washington I would suppose to represent the district but he just votes no, no, no, no, no. He is so far on the back benches of Congress that you can't find him with a telescope.
Surely District 11 needs something (between you and me, it needs plenty) but Nugent is so disliked by the majority of his peers that he could hardly send an email.
He is so stupid that he voted against John Boehner as Speaker in January and, of course, was stripped of his committee assignments.
Even though the 11th district is red it is obviously loaded with voters who vote against their interest but many of them appear to be wising up. In other words, Nugent is ripe for the picking. The 'letters to the editor' columns of the local newspapers have been full of Nugent rebukes and he's getting the worst of it from the editorial writers.
Although we - the democrats - have no announced candidates so far to oppose Nugent I happen to know that last election's loser Dave Koller (from Ocala) is planning to run again.
Although he got 35 percent of the vote in 2014 he has no chance to win. He is clueless.
A good democratic candidate who could articulate the issues would win. We'll find the money to finance a more-than-creditable campaign. I sincerely ask DCCC chairman Lujan to find one.
