Another couple of busy days for the homeless. Friday I cleaned up at PADS center, then attended the start of the Housing meeting. I had to leave 1/2 way through the meeting to make the counselor meeting at the county health center.
When I finished there, I called my insurance co for an urgent care on my plan, then drove to Plainfield to see a doctor. She prescribed an inhaler and antibiotics and wants me to see my PCP.
I tried to stop by to see dad on the way from urgent care to the night's shelter, but he wasn't there. I sent him an email & he wrote back and asked me to try again on Saturday. (Sunday he and his wife start back to Arizona.)
The Wood Dale site last night was just nice. Friendly. The meatloaf they served for dinner was used to make meatloaf sandwiches for bag lunches today. It was just nice.
Until this morning when the toilets didn't work.
After a quick get away, I went to the church of 3 of my (also homeless) friends. They set up a day site for the homeless on the 3rd Saturday of the winter schedule months. I watched a movie called Kingman, then left to visit dad and his wife.
We just chatted for an hour or two. They told me that Mr. N, who was my dad's best friend when they were kids - they once got in trouble for painting the neighborhood sidewalks - Mr. N's lung cancer is advanced and he is extremely weak.
It's hard to imagine that the man I always called Santa Claus is that ill.
I also learned that another distant family member, a guy who spent years in prison for dealing drugs, is homeless, "like you." Glad I've lived my life on the straight and narrow... it's really paid off.
I left to sit in a park and grab a couple of naps to help the antibiotics work, and then drove to Medinah Baptist for tonight's site.
The Linebacker Harpy (LH) is here, throwing her weight and bad attitude around. Someone "shared" with me how she complains (whines) about me, and how others tell her to back off, she just hates everyone. She generally keeps her whining away from my ears, because her REAL complaining is saved for whining about Lenore, the woman with two suitcases.
So that's been the news from the homeless over the past two days, as I sit in the women's section at the Medinah Baptist Church. Sleep well, and cherish sleeping off of the floor.
