Cary Sharp and friend in white robes holding torches next to a cross.
Theresa Sharp—the mayor of Lahoma, Oklahoma—is facing scrutiny after photos of her husband, Cary Sharp, surfaced in one of the most inappropriate Halloween costumes
one could ever imagine:
Cary Sharp was caught on camera dressed like a member of the Ku Klux Klan at a Halloween party on a property in Lahoma.
It was a bonfire and the photo shows torches and a cross but Cary Sharp and his friends insisted no cross was burned despite flames being visible behind it in the photo.
And where'd they get the idea?
"Sit around the bonfire and drink a couple of beers and thought well my buddy his last name is White and the subject got brung (sic) up. We just thought it'd be something to do and it's not something to do," Cary Sharp said. "I am embarrassed. I've shamed my family and friends and I apologize for that."
For being a last-minute prank, they really went on all in—
complete with wood cross, torches and robes with crosses:
Deputy Moore made contact with the group at the bonfire. Sharp was dressed in white robe with a large cross on it but no hood, according to the report.
“I advised the group why I was there, and that although I know it was a joke that they save them and myself anymore headaches to not burn anymore crosses,” Moore wrote in the report.
Just a couple of good ol' boys having a little fun, amirite? The unidentified woman who reported the "prank" was furious:
“Hankins and I tried to explain to the woman that although in poor taste, the Constitution protects freedom of speech and that we can't make them stop,” Moore wrote in the report. “This further irritated the woman.”
