Depending on who you talk to, the Oathkeepers are "
a fiercely antigovernment, militaristic group" or they are true patriots who have pledged to defend the U.S. Constitution
from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Whichever one they are, they're planning a "
Historic Open Carry March" in Ferguson, Missouri on November 16.
Yep. THAT Ferguson.
The principle organizer of the march, Sam Andrews, is described as a former Oathkeeper. He says the purpose of the march is "to show that Americans of all races have equal rights," and "the second point of the march is to prove that the police cannot convert the exercising of a God-given right into crimes."
Members of the group traveled to Ferguson this past August during the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown's murder by former Officer Darren Wilson. Andrews was on the scene then and told Newsweek that if the community was educated to stand up for its rights and secure their communities, "then you don't need this militarized police force in your neighborhood every night."
It should be okay. After all, what could possibly go wrong?
