Hillary Clinton’s anti-Sanders smears are completely out of control: Why her latest Bernie broadside is utterly hypocritical
Clinton is now suggesting that Sanders has a race problem—which is rich, considering her record on the subject
Hillary Clinton has already used Bernie Sanders’ comments about gun control to cynically accuse him of sexism. Now, she’s using his comments on gun control to imply that he’s a racist.
“There are some who say that this [gun violence] is an urban problem,” Clinton said on Friday, speaking to the Charleston, South Carolina NAACP, in a clear reference to Sanders. “Sometimes what they mean by that is: It’s a black problem. But it’s not. It’s not black, it’s not urban. It’s a deep, profound challenge to who we are.”
Clinton running an ad highlighting her support for gun control is politically smart given Sanders’ idiosyncratic record on the issue. But her willingness to smear a left-wing opponent is cynical and particularly remarkable coming from a candidate who has supported some of the most anti-black political initiatives of the past three decades.
Hillary supporters keep telling us that Bernie Sanders has no chance of catching up with her because she has the solid support of women and African Americans. If the Clinton campaign truly believe this, why are they stooping to cynical, disingenuous innuendo to smear Bernie Sanders as a misogynist and racist? And why are her supporters defending this dishonest gutter politics? As they like to tell us, there is the smell of desperation in the air. But that smell is originating in Camp Clinton. I suspect their internal polling tells them that her current level of support, while impressive, is also not firm, that many of those now preferring Clinton are open to being persuaded.
