Mitt Romney has taken the Paris terrorist attacks as a good opportunity for one of his periodic reminders to us all that he still exists, writing an op-ed in the Washington Post that boils down to one key idea: War. Surprise, right?
Oh, there’s a certain amount of yada yada about Muslims mounting “a sustained global campaign to promote tolerance and eschew violence,” but the real message is clear, beginning to end.
After Paris, it’s clear: Doing the minimum won’t make us safe. It’s time the president stopped hedging and took meaningful steps to defend us and our allies.
Translation: War.
We must wage the war to defeat the enemy, not merely to harass it. For over a year, the president has clung to the hope that an air campaign is sufficient. It demonstrably is not.
Translation: Ground war.
Only America can lead this war, and that leadership means being willing to devote whatever resources are required to win — even boots on the ground.
Yup, definitely ground war. We’ve had 14 years to see how well that works, and Mitt Romney is all for another 14 years.
Sadly (so, so sad), Romney is still not running for president, though you know he’s furious he decided against it in the first place.
