Today in Donald Trump news, Donald Trump comes up with a new conspiracy theory, launches into an inexplicable tirade against Caroline Kennedy, and whatever this is.
Trump pivoted from that critique [of Caroline Kennedy] to a broader indictment of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. As he launched into a hypothetical scene in which Clinton is president, he began to say "Madame President" and then paused.
"Can you imagine?" he said. "If it's gotta be a woman, which I'm all in favor of someday, it shouldn't be Hillary."
Mind you, though, he is all in favor of that someday.
As for the conspiracy theory, it is about the Muslims. Or more specifically, about how America is being too nice these days to the Muslims and horribly cruel to the Christians.
"We take only the Muslims," he said. "We don't take the Christians. If you're Christian, it's almost impossible to get into this country."
This, too, will be common knowledge in crackpot circles by next Tuesday. I'm not sure a presidential campaign has ever catered so successfully to America's Stupidest People. All of them have tried, of course, but Donald Trump (possibly because of his network television experience) has the ability to distill the stupidest thing you've ever heard into the stupidest way to say that thing, and stupid people love him for it.
I fear what's going to happen if some so-called "establishment" Republican indeed manages to squeeze out a victory over Trump. His supporters will naturally presume that the game was rigged, perhaps to keep Trump from speaking truths about how Muslim war refugees have things so good, and their fury will be incandescent. Luckily, however, they will still be stupid.
