Really, at the end of “the day,” I have nothing more to say about a Wall Street-Washington D.C. revolving door that has taken this country for a ride since...forever. Even yours truly, after doing media in 25 Democratic campaigns (most of them professionally, from the White House on down to local city council, state representative races and a few issues campaigns, including creating and producing a very successful direct mail campaign for a spinoff of Hillary Clinton’s Children’s Defense Fund, early in my career) gets sucked-in to the spin from time-to-time. So, I’m just as much of a chump and a sucker as most of the people reading this.
I have had been a Gary Gensler fan for many years. I really believed the former Goldman Sachs exec was kicking ass and taking no prisoners when he was chair of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Then, earlier today, I remembered there was something off-kilter about the graphic above, which I had used in numerous posts at Daily Kos about the lack of prosecutions of Wall Street senior executives by the U.S. Department of Justice, under the auspices of then-Attorney General Eric Holder, since those “Masters of the Universe” crashed and burned our economy in 2007-2008.
That’s right, I’m talking about “The Economic Terrorists Among Us.”
Here’s the thing. It’s bad enough nobody (who was anybody) went to jail for ripping-off just about everyone on the planet, but even the nonstop, revisionist Wall Street history to which the entire U.S. voting public’s been subjected in recent years (re: “all of those billions of dollars in fines”) just compounds our “voter amnesia” about this status quo travesty.
What part of “The Banks Run The Place,” did we forget?
Just when you think you’ve seen everything, you’re reminded, there’s no end to this long-con. Gary Gensler’s--who’s now the Chief Financial Officer of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign--widely-hailed, “get-tough” media bullshit record as chair of the CFTC, once you look behind the curtain (the CFTC never collected more than three-quarters of one percent of the “massive fines and penalites” it levied during the 11-year period from 2004-2014) , makes Eric Holder’s stint at DoJ look like he’s the damn champion of the 99%!
But, we all know who’s the real champion of the 99%, don’t we?
