As Donald Trump continues to ring up establishment Republican and evangelical (?!?!?!) endorsements, he's testing the limits of his power with the Republican base by renewing his Fox News feud.
Donald Trump on Monday said he wasn't 100 percent sure that he will attend the Thursday Republican presidential debate moderated by Fox News, renewing the feud he started with Megyn Kelly after the first Republican debate.
"I don't like her. She doesn't treat me fairly. I'm not a big fan of hers at all," Trump told CNN on Thursday, adding that Kelly "better be fair" to him while moderating the debate.
He said on Monday that he won't attend the debate unless he thinks he will be treated fairly.
"If I think I’m going to be treated unfairly, I’ll do something else. But I don’t think she can treat me fairly, actually. I think she’s very biased," he told CNN. "But that doesn't mean I don't do the debate. I like doing the debates. I've won every single debate according to every poll."
Will Fox News roll over for Trump, removing Kelly from the moderating team or promising that she won't be "unfair" to the GOP front-runner? At the moment, they're brushing him off. A spokesperson told CNN that "[s]ooner or later Donald Trump, even if he's president, is going to have to learn that he doesn't get to pick the journalists—we're very surprised he's willing to show that much fear about being questioned by Megyn Kelly."
Tough talk from Fox, which is only likely to make Trump even more obnoxious about it. It's pretty remarkable that, at the moment anyway, the only fissure between Trump and the Republican machine is with Fox News. We'll see how long they manage to keep this up.
