From the fetid swamp of war, sometimes a bit of humanity floats to the surface.
P-47 Thunderbolt pilot Jack Tueller (Col. USAF ret.) was a young Captain on D-Day. He took his trumpet everywhere he went. Following the D-Day invasion, he was told to not play because there was a German sniper nearby. He decided to play anyway. He played Lili Marlene for the German Sniper. . . who did not fire that night. Col. Tueller is now retired and 90 years old. He tells what happened the next day.
