Watch out Hillary, Donald Trump is now free to really wonk out and put some meat on the bones of his policies, reports Maggie Haberman:
Within 24 hours of becoming the de facto leader of the Republican Party, Donald J. Trump on Wednesday declared himself open to raising the minimum wage, a flip-flop from his statement during the primaries that the rate was already too high.
Mr. Trump made the comment in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, in which he said he was “open to doing something with” the minimum wage.
Well that really clarifies things, especially since he was crystal clear during the primaries last fall that American workers are getting paid way too much.
“We have to become competitive with the world. Our taxes are too high, our wages are too high. Everything is too high.”
And it wasn’t just a single slip—Trump first rolled out his wage suppression plan during a November debate and then defended the remarks repeatedly in follow up interviews.
"They were talking about increasing the minimum wage. And whether it's taxes or minimum wages, if they’re too high, we’re not going to be able to compete with other countries."
Maybe by being open to doing “something” he meant lowering that crazy high $7.25 an hour minimum? Don’t fret though, whatever Trump does, it will be “the best.”
