Is Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley feeling all right? I know he's been under considerable stress lately, what with the pressure of not doing things and coming up with new reasons for not doing things, but his sad-eyed acceptance of Donald Trump as his new Republican leader, and subsequent defense of the idea of Donald Trump appointing Supreme Court justices, is taking a dive into the bizarre.
Really now, Sen. Grassley? You've never ever heard anyone accuse Donald Trump of being a liar?
Oh, Chuck, how I envy you. When you go home at night, your staff must pack you into a velvet-lined box and slide you gently into your bedroom closet for safekeeping. Even now the news channels are still humming with the hilarious rediscovery that Donald Trump had a longtime habit of calling up other people while pretending to be the world's most Donald Trump-loving Donald Trump employee, but you've never once heard the man accused of—shudder—dishonesty?
We may be underestimating the toll it is taking on Republicans to pretend that Donald Trump is a super-legitimate and not at all cartoonish leader of their party. In Grassley's case, it’s clearly breaking his brain.
