When Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan endorsed Donald Trump last Thursday, Trump was a lying, belligerent racist currently attacking a United States federal judge as unfair to him because he (the federal judge) was Latino.
Which made things awkward the very next day, when much to Ryan’s surprise Donald Trump continued to be a lying, belligerent racist attacking a United States judge by calling him "a Mexican." This behavior by Trump, said Paul Ryan, came "out of left field."
On Monday we learned that Donald Trump has overruled his own campaign staff in order to keep attacking this same federal judge for being "a Mexican,” and is personally telling surrogates to defend his attacks and question the racial motives of anyone who objects. We've also learned that Trump believes neither Muslim judges nor, possibly, women should be judging cases he is involved in.
Having had an entire weekend to stew on Trump's behavior, we can expect the most principled man within four inches of Paul Ryan's haircut to finally read the riot act to the lying, belligerent racist. Go on, Ryan, show America what you're made of.
Ryan called Trump's comments the "textbook definition of a racist comment" and said that they undercut the House GOP policy agenda efforts. He once again disavowed Trump's comments, and said he didn't understand the thinking behind them.
Buuuuuuuuut?
However, Ryan said he does not believe Hillary Clinton is the better answer.
"This is about ideas, this is about moving our agenda forward and that's why we're moving the way we're moving," he said.
Oh! A question from the back row, Mr. Speaker: When you're willing to back a "textbook" racist in order to advance your own "agenda", Paul Ryan ...
What does that make you?
