Earlier today, the House took roll call votes on 25 amendments before ultimately passing the Department of Defense appropriations bill 282 to 138. 234 Republicans and 48 Democrats supported it. 132 Democrats and 6 Republicans opposed it.
I plan to write a series of posts highlighting various amendments before (perhaps) writing on the overall bill itself.
I’ll start at the end, the last amendment to receive a roll call vote: that of Jared Polis (CO-02).
Polis offered an amendment to reduce the amount appropriated in the bill by 1%, excluding the Defense Health Program account.
It failed 69 to 351. 54 Democrats and 15 Republicans voted for it. 126 Democrats and 225 Republicans voted against it.
Here the 54 Democrats (who should be commended):
Xavier Becerra (CA-34)
Earl Blumenauer (OR-03)
Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01)
Judy Chu (CA-32)
Katherine Clark (MA-05)
Yvette Clarke (NY-09)

Nydia Velazquez (NY-07)
Maxine Waters (CA-43)
Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12)
Pete Welch (VT-AL)
John Yarmuth (KY-03)
This vote was mostly, but not entirely, similar to the vote on a similar amendment from Polis last month, which had the support of 60 Democrats.
Four Democrats who voted for the similar amendment last month—Bass, Doyle, Schakowsky, and Wilson—were not in attendance. One Democrat who was not in attendance last month (Hinojosa) voted for it this month.
But then eleven Democrats who voted for Polis’s amendment last month voted against it today:
Mike Capuano (MA-07)
Tony Cardenas (CA-29)
Andre Carson (IN-07)
Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05)
Marcia Fudge (OH-11)
Alcee Hastings (FL-20)
Bill Keating (MA-09)
Ted Lieu (CA-33)
Zoe Lofgren (CA-19)
Bill Pascrell (NJ-09)
Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40)
And then eight Democrats who voted against the related amendment last month voted for it today:
Danny Davis (IL-07)
Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08)
Marcy Kaptur (OH-09)
Stephen Lynch (MA-08)
Kurt Schrader (OR-05)
Jose Serrano (NY-15)
Louise Slaughter (NY-25)
Nydia Velazquez (NY-07)
Explaining the difference, then…. (-4) + (+1) + (-11) + (+8) = -6
